Our story

A law firm that began in Recife in 2020 to serve companies and individuals on matters where the rules change fast and mistakes are expensive.

Recife as our starting point

Oliveira & Jacobovitz Advogados began operating as a law partnership in Recife in May 2020. It was a year in which companies and families had to revisit contracts, renegotiate commitments and make decisions under pressure, and it made plain how much it matters to have a lawyer who is available, speaks clearly and answers in time.

Today our office is in Pina, on Avenida República do Líbano, overlooking Recife's cable-stayed bridge, the Ponte Estaiada. The address sits between downtown and Boa Viagem, easy to reach for clients who prefer to meet in person, and it says something about the firm: rooted in Recife, looking out at the whole country.

Recife is our base, not our limit. We work nationwide, and because we serve clients in Portuguese, English and Spanish, we also welcome clients from outside Brazil.

Two practices that complete each other

Two practices that complete each other

The firm was built on two complementary profiles. Gabriel Oliveira focuses on civil, corporate, administrative, regulatory and employment law, with particular dedication to iGaming and sports betting. Thiago Jacobovitz leads advisory and litigation work for corporate and individual clients: contracts, shareholder, family and succession disputes, and higher complexity litigation.

That combination shapes how we work. The same firm that drafts the contract knows how a dispute unfolds, and the lawyer running the case knows where the document fell short. Advisory work and litigation are in constant dialogue, so clients do not have to change lawyers when the nature of the problem changes.

It is also why we serve both companies and individuals. A shareholder dispute often has a family side; succession planning almost always involves a business. Seeing both sides helps us propose solutions that work in real life.

Regulated sectors since the market took shape

Early on, the firm chose to be where the rules were still being written. Law No. 13,756/2018 created fixed-odds betting in Brazil, but its regulation only took shape with Law No. 14,790/2023 and the rules issued by the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting of the Ministry of Finance. We have followed that process from the start, keeping track of ordinances, public consultations and shifts in interpretation.

That choice demanded method: studying a rule before it becomes an obligation, turning regulatory text into business decisions and helping operators, suppliers and investors understand what changes, in what order and with what risk.

The same care extends to the other regulated environments where we work, such as healthcare, public procurement and dealings with government bodies. In all of them the reasoning is the same: understand the rule, the regulator and the business before proposing an argument.

How we work today and where we are heading

Today the firm works across ten practice areas, from civil and corporate law to complex litigation, including real estate, family, succession, employment, healthcare, public procurement and iGaming. Our work is nationwide, covers both advisory and litigation, and is available in Portuguese, English and Spanish.

Our founding principle still holds: few clients per lawyer, a partner close to every case, and deadlines and next steps agreed before work begins. For us, growing means deepening our specialization, not multiplying cases that nobody follows closely.

The road ahead means continuing to study the sectors where regulation is moving, sharing that knowledge in articles and analysis, and keeping the approach we started with: understanding what is at stake for the people who come to us before telling them what to do.

Understand what is at stake before saying what to do.
